The Riverton Area Book Club will meet Saturday, November 19, from 10-11am in the Riverton Village Library conference room to discuss Tuesdays with Morrie, by Mitch Albom. Morrie Schwartz was Albom's former sociology professor. When Albom became aware on a "Nightline" special that Morrie was dying from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) he reached out to him to reconnect. Albom's memoir is about the numerous visits he made with Morrie, receiving the professor's last lessons of life including advice and wisdom such as: "There's a big confusion in this country over what we want versus what we need."
The book, published in 1997, was a non-fiction New York Times bestseller in 2000 and continued to be for many years afterward; in 1999 it became a television film starring Hank Azaria and Jack Lemmon. The Library provides books and audio for readers. If you have any questions or comments please call the Riverton Library at 217-629-6353. The November meeting will be the last until January 2023 when the book to be discussed is The Woman They Could Not Silence, by Kate Moore. That woman, Elizabeth Packard, was institutionalized at the Illinois State Hospital (Jacksonville, Illinois) in the 1860s.
