Book Club - Saturday, September 18

The Riverton Area Book Club members announce their September selection and invite new members to join the discussion on Saturday, September 18, from 10-11, at the Riverton Municipal Building community room. The room allows for social distancing and masks are worn. The September choice is: The Book of Lost Friends, by Lisa Wingate. Inspired by history, Wingate covers two time periods: the post Civil War South and modern day. "Lost Friends" refers to advertisements in the newspaper by freed slaves looking for family members sold off. The story of three women from Louisiana pursuing their family in 1875 is used in 1987 by a teacher in a rural school trying to engage her students in learning.Lisa Wingate is a best selling author of over 30 novels, the most recent being Before We Were Yours. Her latest publication, Before and After, is the real life stories of orphans who survived the Tennessee Children's Home Society.
Print books and audio are available through the Riverton Area Library, as well as other libraries. Everyone is welcome to attend and you do not need to have read the book. For further information about obtaining a copy of the book contact the library at 217-629-6353.
