Join us for Book Club September 17th

The Riverton Area Book Club meets Saturday, September 17, to talk about the novel The Cafe by the Sea, by Jenny Colgan and published in 2017. Discussions take place 10-11 am at the Riverton Municipal Building's community room.  Books and audio can be obtained by contacting the Library staff at 217-629-6353.

Jenny Colgan, who has written numerous romances and science fiction (Doctor Who storylines), was born in Scotland. The Cafe by the Sea takes place on the fictional Mure, which is based on the Hebrides, the northernmost Scottish islands. This location is practically a character in itself as Colgan describes the wild weather, the ruggedness of the land, the dark days of winter, and life near the sea. Flora, the protagonist, has been raised on this remote island but is currently working in London at a job for which she has no passion. However, she does feel passionate about Joel, her boss, who mostly ignores her. A job assignment which takes her back to Mure changes Flora's outlook on life and allows her to reconnect with family, friends, and the memories of her mother. The book club, almost at the end of another year, meets monthly except for December. Discussions are informal; if readers have a book they would like to discuss with others they are welcome to propose it for discussion.Books are available in print, audio, and often in ebook options.
