May Book Club

Hi, Readers!

Our May 20 selection is: Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood by Trevor Noah, published in 2016.

Trevor Noah currently is the host of  "The Daily Show," a satirical news program on Comedy Central. The title of the book refers to his parents being of mixed race which was a crime at the time he was born. His story recounts his coming of age during apartheid in South Africa and its aftermath and the powerful influence of his mother.

Although many of us had problems with the writing style of Robert Hicks' Widow of the South, we had an animated discussion about the Civil War, Lincoln, wars, and the mental stability of Carrie McGavock. One of our members has been to Franklin and visited Carrie's home.

See you next month!
